Methods of PID controller auto-tuning (US Patents No. 7,035,695 and No. 8,255,066)
Two new methods of tuning a PID controller for a process in a feedback control system are developed and used in FalconTune© software. These methods supplied with detailed technical documents and technical support are available for licensing. Both methods involve bringing the system into symmetric or asymmetric self-excited oscillations for measuring the frequency and the amplitude of the oscillations, and tuning the controller in dependence on the measurements obtained. A control algorithm is introduced into a system in series with a process to generate self-excited oscillations. Tuning includes the steps of selecting a desired gain margin or phase margin, generating oscillations with the algorithm parameter corresponding to a selected gain or phase margin and the type of the process being tuned, measurements of the amplitude and the frequency of these oscillations, and computing PID controller tuning parameters. The developed methods ensure high efficiency and accuracy of tuning and attractive benefit-to-cost ratio of your investment. Licensing of the intellectual property as per the patents issued is available.
Control method of sulfur recovery (Claus) process (US Patent No. 8,527,071; Canadian Patent pending)
A new control principle is developed for sulfur recovery (Claus) process. The control of a process for producing free sulfur from hydrogen sulfide is accomplished like in a traditional way – by manipulating the air flow to a furnace in such a manner that a desired proportion of the hydrogen sulfide fed to the furnace is converted to sulfur dioxide. Combustion of hydrogen sulfide is precisely controlled by the developed adaptive control system to maintain the hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide concentrations in the tail gas at minimal possible levels to reduce environmental pollution, maximize sulfur production and extend catalyst life. The control system uses only the instruments conventionally available for this process control. If your current system is based on a PID control, only software modifications would be necessary to implement the developed adaptive control system (no modifications to instrumentation are necessary). The developed control ensures high benefit-to-cost ratio of your investment. References from the clients currently using this control principle are available. Both licensing of the intellectual property as per the patent issued, and turnkey solution for your automation system are available.
